The Eureka Rodeo begins this Friday.

Now in its eighth year, the rodeo has seen growth, not only in sponsorships but also its ability to attract a high number of quality contestants On the Talk of Emporia this week, committee member Jamie Nelson spoke about this weekend's event with a lot of optimism.

The rodeo features 21 bareback riders, 18 saddle broncs and 18 bull riders over two nights. Friday is Veterans Appreciation Night. Saturday will be Mark Out Cancer Night. Nelson says they plan to help raise funds for a local 2-year-old boy battling cancer.

You can also make online donations to Mason Tough through the Eureka Pro Rodeo Facebook page.

A calf dressing event is new to this year's rodeo Saturday and figures to get some laughs among rodeo spectators.

The annual parade is also scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday. Gates open at 6 p.m. Friday. Tickets are $10 and free for those 12 and under and are available at the gate.
