Eureka residents had a chance to visit with Sen. Jerry Moran (R-Kan.) Friday morning.

It was Moran's first trip to Eureka since the EF-3 tornado hit the town June 26, the second tornado to cause significant damage in two years. Moran says he listened to concerns from residents who are now looking to the future on recovery.

Moran says part of that looking to the future is finding ways to build new homes to assess its housing needs and says even though Eureka didn't qualify for FEMA assistance there may be other federal programs out there to help in the recovery and rebuilding, especially when it comes to housing.

Moran toured the damaged sites including Eureka High School which sustained significant damage.

The Senator applauded the efforts of residents and the many volunteers who showed up to help with clean up. He says he will work as an ally to support the recovery of the community.
