The first winter weather advisories of the season now blanket the entire KVOE listening area. That's because light amounts of freezing rain and snow could cover the area by this time Friday.
Lyon, Coffey, Morris and Osage counties are in an advisory from 6 pm Thursday to noon Friday. This is an adjustment from the original 9 pm Thursday to 3 pm Friday advisory time. Chase and Greenwood counties are in a separate advisory until 6 pm Friday, and Wabaunsee County is currently in an advisory until 6 am.
WIBW-TV meteorologist Drew Switzer says freezing rain and sleet are likely now overnight Thursday through part of the morning hours Friday, with some snowflakes also mixed in. Accumulations will be light -- perhaps less than a tenth of an inch of ice and under an inch of snow -- but that could easily make travel more difficult Friday morning.
