The Emporia Recreation Commission had their regular board meeting Monday night, and discussed the latest updates on the Soden's Grove project and the fitness room renovations.
Directorm Tom McEvoy says Soden's Grove baseball complex should be finished by the end of the week. On Monday, workers laid down the carpet, and Tuesday the sod will be laid in the outfield. Work was delayed by recent heavy rains in the area.
The entire project should be completed by Thanksgiving. The ERC also discussed their options for building renovations, mainly with the fitness room and upstairs exercise studio. The discussion revolved around budgeting for those improvements, and picking and choosing different options laid out in the proposal. One thing was set in stone though.
Some of the exercise equipment currently in use is over 20 years old, and being held together with bailing wire. The commission's waiting on a new space to be built, before they purchase new equipment. Projected costs for the project are still estimates, and range from $179,000 to $488,000. Those figures will be more refined for next month's meeting.
In other business, McEvoy mentioned the amending of the Trusler Sports Complex Agreement. This is a 10-year old legal document which spells out the usage and maintenance rights of the facility. Amending the document would equal more responsibility on the ERC's part, and more work from them to maintain and operate the facility. That item was tabled until January.
The next ERC meeting is on Dec. 16.
