Briggs speaks on upcoming campaign, ideas during Democrats meeting

Teresa Briggs says she's ready for the 2014 election.

The Emporia Democrat is running for the 76th District House Seat, against Peggy Mast in next year's election. Briggs spoke at the Lyon County Democrats' November meeting on Nov. 16, and fielded questions and ideas for the upcoming election.

Briggs switched parties in 2012, after "feeling disconnected" from the Republicans. She spoke about her personal history, including the death of her first husband in 2005 and her past work in local non-profits, and as a county commissioner.

Over the next two months, the Lyon County Democrats will be working on helping people with voter registration, and paying some of the fees associated with obtaining state voter IDs. Hefty fundraising and caucus-organizing will also take place. Briggs says she wants to have a "substantial amount of money in the bank" by January 10.

The Lyon County Dems won't have a December meeting, due to the holiday season.
