Sakura Choir performs fall concert, raises money for children's scholarship

The Emporia State University Japanese Association Sakura Choir had their fall concert on Friday night, hosted by the First Presbyterian Church in downtown Emporia.

The choir was formed following the 2011 Japan tsunami, but has evolved into a multi-cultural gathering of motivated students.

The group performed a variety of pieces, from traditional Japanese folk songs to anime theme music, to the state song "Home on the Range." KVOE's Chuck Samples emceed the event.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the Ashinaga Scholarship Association, which to date has raised about $29,000 for orphans and children affected by the tsunami. The money raised will also go toward Pastor Mike Sorsen, who has been battling Lyme disease for two and a half years.
