Car-deer crash leads to injuries for Council Grove woman

A Council Grove woman was hurt in a car-deer crash near the Lyon-Wabaunsee county line early Sunday.

The Kansas Turnpike Authority says 26-year-old Nicole Shepard was a passenger in a car driven by 23-year-old Kyle Goodwin of Emporia. Goodwin was southbound on the Turnpike when he hit a deer nearly 30 miles northeast of Emporia at around 2:20 am. Goodwin's car hit the center barrier wall and overturned.

Shepard was not wearing her seat belt, however she was not hospitalized for her injuries. Goodwin, who was restrained, was not hurt.
