Christmas parade entry deadline is Friday

Final preparations continue for the All Veterans Tribute parade coming Monday morning in downtown Emporia.

Close to 50 entries will be involved with the parade starting at 9:30 am.

While those preparations near their zenith, work is also ongoing on Emporia's next parade -- the Christmas parade Dec. 3. Chamber President and CEO Jeanine McKenna says the registration deadline is, believe it or not, Friday.

This is the 36th annual Christmas parade in Emporia. The theme this year is "A Time for Honoring," in part because of the 150th anniversary of Emporia State University, 75th anniversaries of the United Way of the Flint Hills and Lyon County Historical Society and 50th anniversary of Flint Hills Technical College. University President Michael Shonrock, FHTC President Dean Hollenbeck and United Way Director Jami Reever are parade marshals.

For information, call the Chamber at 342-1600 or go online to www.emporiakschamber.org.
