The United Way of the Flint Hills raised $11,350 during a unique fundraiser on Tuesday, Nov. 5.
The Small Business Blitz is an event where 12 to 15 volunteers will race around the community, "Amazing Race" style, to solicit donations from small businesses across Emporia, and also compete in some challenges along the way.
In October, the United Way of the Flint Hills announced an ambitious campaign goal of $575,000 to help its community partners. United Way Director Jami Reever says they're halfway there.
At the same time, they also announced a partnership with the Dolly Parton Imagination Library, which provides books to children who otherwise would not have access to them. On the day the campaign kicked off, the United Way toured area schools and gave out 250 books to preschoolers.
Reever says none of this would be possible without community involvement.
