Tank spends nearly two hours at Sixth and Prairie

A large tank headed to a McPherson oil refinery had an eventful trip through and around Emporia on Monday.

The nearly 210-foot-long tank left Sauder Custom Fabrications three hours late, according to Emporia Police, and then got stuck at Sixth and Prairie around 11 am.

The tank and related equipment blocked all five lanes of Sixth Avenue for nearly two hours before traffic signals, power lines and cable TV lines were adjusted to let the tank through.

Additional above-ground adjustments were needed as the tank went north on Prairie to 30th, then cut west to Americus Road before turning south and later re-connecting with U.S. Highway 50.
