Work is progressing on the National Teachers Hall of Fame Memorial to Fallen Educators.
It was announced earlier this year that such a project would be located on the Emporia State campus west of the One Room School House. Carol Strickland, executive director of the Hall of Fame, said she met recently with the Master Plan Committee for the university and they have suggested that the memorial be more visible.
Strickland said the campaign is making good progress, with about $70,000 in the bank and negotiations ongoing with several entities. It will cost an estimated $200,000 to complete the project.
She noted the quarry in Georgia has already finished the benches for the memorial and they will also be in the black granite material. To learn more about the Memorial to Fallen Educators call 341-5660 or visit their web site at www.nthf.org.
