Junior high and high schoolers met at the Lyon County Fairgrounds this weekend to do a little rodeoing. The Lyon County Showdown featured young riders from Kansas, Oklahoma, Colorado and Texas.
Director of the Kansas Junior High School Rodeo Association Wayne Whiting mentioned all the events of the weekend.
Taking place just a day after Emporia's first snowfall of the season, the fairgrounds were a bit muddy.
Regardless of the weather, 164 high schoolers and 61 junior high competitors showed for the rodeo. Whiting said he was pleased with the turnout.
The rodeo competitors always help KVOE's Drive for Food, and they did again this year. Eden Jeter, an 11-year-old from Berryton, was in Emporia for the first time and brought in the most items this year.
Over 800 items were brought in by the rodeo participants this year.
