KDOT 2015-16 construction plan includes several area highways

The Kansas Department of Transportation has announced plans to sink over $1 billion into road and bridge construction projects across the state the next two years.

 

Spokesperson Ann Williamson tells KVOE News the projects, including over 30 across the listening area, will benefit the state in the short and long run.

Over 460 highway projects and nearly 200 bridge and interchange projects are included in the T-WORKS plan.

Numerous area highways will see work, but one of keen interest areawide is work on U.S. Highway 50 in Chase County. KDOT plans to spend over $6 million to expand the highway near Strong City, with additional improvements further west in Harvey County. Additionally, KDOT plans expansion projects on U.S. 400 from Kansas Highway 99 to the Butler County line along with several projects on Kansas Highway 170 in Lyon and Osage Counties. Kansas Highway 31 in Osage County and U.S. 75 in Osage and Coffey counties also have major projects coming through 2016.

Area projects

Lyon County:

*K-170 light preservation from the K-99 junction to the Lyon-Osage County line. Estimated cost: $795,000.
*I-35 bridge repair over Neosho River. Estimated cost: $60,000.
*U.S. 50 local construction from Constitution to Commercial and K-99 from Kansas Avenue to south city limits. Estimated cost: $392,265.
*Emporia local construction BNSF east crossing at U.S. 50. Estimated cost: $350,000.
*Emporia local construction BNSF west crossing at U.S. 50. Estimated cost: $350,000.

Chase County:

*U.S. 50 light preservation from near K-177 junction to two miles west of Lyon County line. Estimated time: $1.052 million.
*U.S. 50 expansion from Strong City east two miles. Estimated cost: $4.38 million.
*U.S. 50 expansion from about 7.5 miles east of K-177 junction east for 1.4 miles. Estimated cost: $2.1 million.

Coffey County:

*U.S. 75 heavy preservation from Burlington to Osage County line. Estimated cost: $6.21 million.
*K-31 light preservation from Osage to Anderson county line. Estimated cost: $760,000.
*K-58 bridge repair about four miles south of the U.S. 75 junction. Estimated cost: $115,000.

Greenwood County:

*U.S. 54 light preservation from Butler County line to Eureka. Estimated cost: $1.987 million.
*U.S. 54 light preservation from Eureka to K-99 junction. Estimated cost: $2.127 million.
*U.S. 54 bridge repair. Estimated cost: $232,000.
*U.S. 400 expansion from Butler-Greenwood county line east 2.5 miles. Estimated cost: $3.815 million.
*U.S. 400 expansion from five miles east of Butler-Greenwood county line east 2.5 miles. Estimated cost: $3.314 million.
*U.S. 400 expansion from about 1.75 miles east of K-99 junction east two miles. Estimated cost: $3.9165 million.

Morris County:

*K-4 light construction from Dickinson to Wabaunsee county line. Estimated cost: $3.147 million.
*K-149 culvert repair from U.S. 56 junction to K-4 junction. Estimated cost: $912,000.
*U.S. 56 bridge replacement over Haun Creek. Estimated cost: $800,600.
*Council Grove local construction on U.S. 56 from Monroe to Belfry. Estimated cost: $240,120.
*Council Grove local construction pedestrian bike path. Estimated cost: $401,000.

Osage County:

*K-31 light preservation from the U.S. 56/K-31 south junction to the K-31/K-170 junction. Estimated cost: $148,000.
*K-31 light preservation from Osage City east to the U.S. 75/K-31/K-268 junction. Estimated cost: $662,000.
*K-31 light preservation from I-35 junction to Coffey County line. Estimated cost: $124,000.
*K-68 light preservation from the U.S. 75/K-68 junction to the K-68/K-268 junction. Estimated cost: $320,000.
*U.S. 75 light preservation from the K-31/K-268 junction to the two- and four-lane transition section. Estimated cost: $1.029 million
*K-170 light preservation from the Lyon County line to Osage City. Estimated cost: $1.292 million.
