Beef Fest ready to celebrate area grass cattle industry

Flint Hills Beef Fest is celebrating its 28th anniversary this weekend.

As usual, a host of activities are planned starting Friday and continuing through early Sunday afternoon. President-elect Jaret Moyer, a KVOE Newsmaker guest Thursday, said events start with a fast pace Friday with a free breakfast and beef producers seminar.

Friday activities also include the start of the Beef Fest BBQ contest with music provided by Backyard Legend, a pasture evaluation, ranch feed and ranch rodeo. KVOE is broadcasting live starting at 5 pm.

Saturday's event list is chock-full, starting with the 5K Run for the Brand at The Orchard at 8 am. The live stocker show returns after not being held the past two years. KVOE will once again team up with the Beef Fest Committee to provide free hamburgers from 11 am to 1 pm. The Beef Fest awards banquet starts at 5:30 pm, with ag comedian Jay Hendren, the Bluestem Swingers and Ricky Fugitt all performing before the night is out.

A golf tournament wraps up the Beef Fest weekend Sunday at the Emporia Golf Course.
