Heat and humidity have settled across the listening area, and it doesn't appear the heat will break until the middle of next week.
A heat advisory affects Lyon, Coffey, Osage and Wabaunsee counties until 9 pm Thursday as heat indices could climb to near 110 degrees before waning. TV-13 meteorologist Drew Switzer says it's a typical summer pattern, but this summer hasn't been a normal one when it comes to extended heat.
While the heat is in place, make sure to drink lots of water or sports drinks if you are spending any time outside. Also, check your vehicles to clear them of children or pets so they don't suffer from heat exhaustion or heat stroke, and check on elderly neighbors to see how they are faring.
