Storefront decorating contest preludes Swarm the Nest Hornet Rally, first Hornet football game of season

The Hornet's nest is close to being swarmed, and some downtown storefronts will be decorated in the coming days.

To kick off the start of another school year at Emporia State University -- and the beginning of another Hornet Football season -- local businesses are encouraged to register and decorate their windows to show support for ESU and Hornet Football. Emporia Area Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Jeanine McKenna was a Morning Show guest Wednesday, and she offered some more details. McKenna says there is a $25 donation to participate, but eventually that money will go to a good cause.

Prizes are available, with first place getting a $1,000 advertising package from Emporia's Radio Stations; second and third place get $500 in advertising. Businesses don't have to be along Commercial in order to participate.

Winners will be announced during the Swarm the Nest Hornet Rally coming up on Wednesday, Sep. 3 from 6-8pm at Welch Stadium. Food, music, games and other activities highlight the Rally. Use the hashtag #HornetRally to participate on Twitter the day of. The first Hornet football game is Thursday, Sep. 4 at 7pm, against Missouri Southern.
