The annual open enrollment period for Medicare Part D prescription coverage is now underway.
On KVOE's Newsmaker segment Tuesday, Lyon County Aging Services Director Doug Stueve said representatives from Senior Health Insurance Counseling for Kansas, or SHICK, will be at the Aging Service office at 402 Commercial on Oct. 30 and 31.
Walk-ins are welcome but appointments are preferred, so call ahead to 340-8258. Regardless of whether you set an appointment, make sure you bring your Medicare card and all prescription information.
Stueve says prescription plans can change noticeably from one year to the next, so it's important for seniors to find the best plan for them. Seniors have close to 30 plans to sort through and choose from this year. And -- oh, yes -- there's also health care reform changes to consider.
Seniors need to be enrolled by Dec. 7. Stueve says assistance will take place at the Aging Services office through that date.
