Sweets for Stephanie benefiting Reading woman's medical expenses

The Miracle Cafe in Reading is hosting a special fundraiser to benefit a Reading resident badly hurt in a fall last month.

Sweets for Stephanie is a bake sale benefiting Stephanie Smith from 6 to 8 pm Friday and 8 to 11 am Saturday. The event is helping Smith, who fell five stories from a hotel balcony in Independence, Mo., about a month ago.

Smith has had several surgeries since her fall and is still recuperating at a Kansas City acute care facility.

The baked goods range from pies to cookies and breads, and there are other food items including homemade noodles. Suggested purchase prices will be on each item.

For information or to donate, call the Miracle Cafe at 620-699-3009 or Melissa Siler at 620-699-3321. Siler says a fund has been set up for Smith's medical expenses at the Citizens State Bank branch in Reading and people can track Smith's progress online through the Facebook page "Stephanie's Steps to Recovery."
