Underground Utilities Supervisor Gary Sadowski is relieved two water main breaks affecting parts of Emporia are now fixed.
The break at Sixth and Wilson affected about 50 locations, including a handful of businesses. The other break in the 800 block of Sylvan impacted around 20 residents.
Sadowski says the six-inch water main on Sylvan was due to be replaced this year, but work has been delayed.
The pipes involved could well be 75 to 100 years old. Sadowski says dry conditions can cause soil to pull away from the pipes causing cracks.
