Text of Friday's statement on Camp Alexander's immediate closure from board chair Brian McCracken.
August 1, 2014, EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY -
Over the last several weeks the Board of Camp Alexander became aware of unforeseen financial obligations. The Board of Camp Alexander regrets to inform, the public, parents of campers and interested parties of the immediate cancellation of day camp at Camp Alexander. This serves as official notice that Camp will no longer operate beginning Monday, August 4, 2014 and for the duration of the summer due to financial emergencies that were unanticipated. We understand the hardships this may cause campers and their parents, but we are unable to resolve our difficulties at this time. Because we have been unable to obtain emergency funding we regret having to make this decision at this point in the summer camp program. The Board is actively exploring how to keep Camp Alexander functioning to provide outdoor opportunities for children of the community.
Camp will be open Monday until 5:30 for pick up of camper's gear or to check the "lost and found".
