New Veterans Banner project in the works for downtown Emporia

Emporia Main Street director Casey Woods highlighted a brand-new venture being undertaken by Main Street and the Freedom Fest Committee during a recent Morning Show appearance.

After being contacted by local residents and inspired by other communities with similar features, Woods announced a veterans banner project in the works between Main Street and the Freedom Fest Committee.

For $150, folks can get a picture of their chosen military member (either a veteran or active-duty personnel) on a banner displayed downtown. The banner would also feature their branch of service, and be hung downtown for a month during Veterans' Day activities for three consecutive years.

Woods says this would help enhance Emporia's Veterans Day events.

Woods says they need pictures and some basic information to get started with entries. More information, including an entry form and guidelines for submissions, can be found at www.emporiamainstreet.com.
