Emporia woman convicted of dependent adult mistreatment; husband awaiting trial

An Emporia woman has been convicted for not only mistreating a dependent adult but also conspiring to do so. Her husband, meanwhile, is awaiting trial on similar charges.

The Kansas Attorney General's Office says a Lyon County jury convicted 56-year-old Dalene Miller on Thursday. The case originated with a complaint filed to the state Adult Protective Services department in May 2011. The state alleging Miller misused funds of her 93-year-old mother-in-law, who was residing at a care facility. The state says Miller, acting as power of attorney and trustee for her mother-in-law, bought a house, farm and truck while her relative's expenses were not paid.

Sentencing is 9 am September 26 in Lyon County District Court.

Miller's husband, Rick, has also been charged with mistreatment and conspiracy. He faces trial in November.
