USD 252 South Lyon County is celebrating Monday after receiving a hefty grant from Monsanto.
The district recently was awarded a $25,000 grant through the America's Farmers Grow Rural Communities program, which offers farmers the chance to nominate a public school district for math and science education projects.
Grant proceeds will help build two greenhouses, one for Olpe Junior-Senior High and one for Hartford High and Neosho Rapids Junior High. Students will get hands-on opportunities to learn about science and agriculture through the growing process. They will also learn about economy and entrepreneurship as the plants will be sold or used in school kitchens.
A special check presentation is at the Olpe Chicken House on Monday.
