Teen arrested in Short Stop robbery; EPD says EHS Easter morning break-in 'cleared' during investigation

Emporia Police have arrested the individual they believe is responsible for the Short Stop convenience store robbery in north central Emporia early Sunday. They also believe the teenager was at least somewhat involved in several other notable crimes locally.

EPD Capt. Dave DeVries says a 15-year-old male was arrested. The teen's name is not being released because of his age.

The 15-year-old allegedly robbed the Short Stop at gunpoint around 1:30 am Sunday, with investigators saying he got away with an unlisted amount of cash and cigarettes. During the investigation, DeVries said EPD discovered a vehicle was stolen Saturday night and used in the robbery. A firearm, apparently one item taken during 15 auto burglaries EPD says were cleared during the Short Stop investigation, was allegedly taken Saturday and also allegedly used in Sunday's crime.

On top of that, EPD also says the Emporia High burglary Easter morning of drugs, including narcotics, was cleared during this investigation.

Formal charges are pending and the investigation continues. DeVries says anybody who had their vehicle burglarized and did not report it over the past few months should call EPD at 343-4200. DeVries also says people should not leave unattended firearms in their vehicles.
