Emporia Community Foundation announces Match Day on Newsmaker segment

The Emporia Community Foundation is preparing for its second annual Giving Tuesday on Dec. 2. This time, it's also preparing for a new event to highlight the season of giving.

On KVOE's Newsmaker segment Wednesday, Director Shirley Antes and program officer Loni Heinen unveiled a Match Day on Dec. 1.

Antes says this is an extension of last year's Giving Tuesday, when the Community Foundation asked people to like its Facebook page and the 500th person to do so could pick one local charity for a $500 donation. This year, 15 groups will benefit.

Three local foundations -- Trusler, Reeble and Hopkins -- have combined to offer $20,000. Heinen says the 15 groups involved will receive a proportionate amount of the foundation grant money depending on the amount of private donations they get on Match Day.

The list of beneficiaries will be revealed on KVOE's Newsmaker segment Sept. 9. For more information, call the Community Foundation at 342-9304 or go online to www.emporiacf.org.
