The 2014 Lyon County Fair will have its first event Thursday evening with the Friends of 4H Picnic in the Anderson Building on the Fairgrounds.
This year's fair has an extended schedule which will encompass the next four weekends. According to Ken Duft, Vice-President of the Fair Board, this was due to a change in the start of school in Emporia.
Fair Board Secretary Sheila Price says Thursday's picnic is a traditional beginning for the fair.
4H activities will encompass much of the fair's time through Tuesday, Aug 5. That night will mark the premium livestock sale and the first night of the carnival. Grandstand events won't begin to dominate until Aug. 6 and will conclude with the demolition derby on Saturday, Aug. 16. in between fair goers will be able to see rodeos, tractor pulls, the Blackhawk concert and much more.
KVOE will have reports and results from the 4-H events and competitions on air and online at KVOE.com. KVOE will also have several broadcasts from different grandstand events during the second half of the 2014 Lyon County Fair.
