Municipal Band impresses Kansas Bandmasters Association at summer conference

The Emporia Municipal Band had the honors of closing down the Kansas Bandmasters Association summer conference, and according to Director Gary McCarty, it did so in style.

McCarty says the invitation to play was a tremendous honor, and the band "played over its head" as it performed a concert very similar to ones played at Fremont Park during the summer season that ended recently.

McCarty says the performance may have opened some doors for concerts outside Emporia, although that could be years away depending on schedules. He also says the Municipal Band wants to hold a music festival involving different community bands, but that could also be years away.

The Municipal Band will now prepare for its annual Christmas concert Dec. 14 at the Granada Theatre.
