The welding program at Flint Hills Technical College is setting the stage for a major expansion.
The college Board of Trustees voted unanimously Monday to approve a lease-purchase agreement through CoreFirst for the one-time Four Mile Carriage building and 10 acres of property at 3701 West Sixth. Estimated cost is $195,000, and college president Dr. Dean Hollenbeck says the cost would be significantly higher to construct a new building.
Hollenbeck says the goal is to expand the welding program from its current 27 students to as many as 60. The college is planning to keep its training facility at Sauder Custom Fabrication.
Hollenbeck will join the Morning Show at 8:15 am Tuesday with more on the purchase and the welding program.
