Infrastructure projects keeping Emporia crews busy

One major infrastructure project is underway in Emporia. Three more are coming later this year.

City Manager Mark McAnarney, a recent Talk of Emporia guest, says the Water Treatment Plant will receive a major upgrade to its ozone equipment.

Ozone is a big reason why Emporia finished fifth in the Berkeley Springs International Water Tasting Contest this year and won it last year.

Other major projects this summer include the annual Konnecting Link project, which will bid soon and resurface U.S. Highway 50 from Peyton and Corinth to the east city limits and also provide side walk ramps.

Also slated: work to repave the taxiway and apron at the Municipal Airport. That project follows the repaving of the airport runway last year.

Meanwhile, work continues to bring a sewer line now -- and a water line later this year -- to U.S. Highway 50 just west of Emporia. Both Industrial Park No. 4 and the Americus Road corridor will benefit from these improvements.
