Plans in place for Emporia's July 4 fireworks display

Everything is lining up for a big fireworks display in Emporia.

The city has its fireworks show Friday night at Emporia State University. On KVOE's Newsmaker segment Thursday, ESU Police and Safety Capt. Chris Hoover said people can start parking on campus early at several spots, with the most popular viewing locations at Welch Stadium and the ESU practice fields.

Police Sgt. Lisa Sage says there will be some do's and don'ts on campus.

Sage said a lot of agencies are working together to make sure the event is successful.

Hoover says there will be some traffic adjustments to make sure there is smooth traffic flow before and after the event, but the plan is almost identical to the plan used the past couple years.

The Flint Hills Optimists are handling the pyrotechnics for the show. KVOE will provide live traffic updates before the show starting at 6:30 pm and afterward as well. We will also live audio and video stream the fireworks display on KVOE-TV at KVOE.com.
