Emporia firefighters were paged to Holiday Resort for a potential fire early Saturday. They found something else causing smoke in the assisted living facility.
Emporia Fire Capt. Rick Peck says crews were called out shortly before 3:15 am after smoke was noticed. Upon arrival, crews quickly noticed a fluorescent light ballast had malfunctioned and started smoking. Firefighters unscrewed the bulb, ending any potential threat.
No injuries were reported.
