EFOZ open house, Visitation and Exchange Center anniversary among weekend highlights

A busy weekend continues across the KVOE listening area.

Washunga Days is ongoing in Council Grove, with Saturday events including a parade, arts and crafts fair, car and motorcycle show, duck race, pow-wow and live music. Sunday's schedule features a church service and vintage baseball game.

Sunday's busy. The annual Emporia Friends of the Zoo Open House is from 1 to 3 pm at the zoo. Folks can see the off-exhibit area, take part in a host of family activities, buy EFOZ memberships and learn more about "Mission Madagascar: EFOZ open house event chair Brenton Bennett says this is the latest phase in a project to let the lemurs be more visible.

KVOE will broadcast live from the zoo open house. Parking will be limited and traffic will be tight, especially with the closure of Zoo Road last fall.

Sundays on the Porch continues at 2 pm with "Murders on the Porch," a look at the Sandy Bird and Martin Anderson murders that led to the TV movie, "Murder Ordained." The discussion begins at 2 pm at Red Rocks.

And SOS is celebrating the 15th year of operations for the Child Visitation and Exchange Center with a special Family Fun Night beginning at 6 pm at the Bowyer Community Building. Spokesperson Deb Schneider says a lot is planned.
