The Memorial to Fallen Educators is starting to take shape as the ceremony to dedicate it draws near.
Specialized benches were installed earlier this week, and the granite memorial markers were installed Friday. The granite stones are already inscribed with the names of over 100 educators and staffers killed while protecting students from various threats.
National Teachers Hall of Fame director Carol Strickland said a number of people who have friends or family listed on the plaque will be in Emporia for the ceremony. That includes a 4th grade teacher from Connecticut whose best friend was one of those killed in the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary.
KVOE will carry the dedication ceremony live on 14 KVOE at 2 pm June 12, with the live audio and video stream online at KVOE-TV on KVOE.com.
