Park study on City Commission slate for Wednesday

Emporia city commissioners don't have a lot of items on their agenda for Wednesday's study meeting, but they have a couple items of note.

First, commissioners will hear from consultant Dick Horton on the city's plan for its parks. Horton made several suggestions during a City Commission meeting in September, including new amenities and special events at several of the parks -- but also disposing of several unused parks including Lakeview, Quaker, Urbanside and Walnut.

Second, commissioners will review their ongoing goals for the city, including a review of economic development efforts; boosting the so-called "educational triad" of Emporia State, Flint Hills Technical College and the Emporia School District; and developing a five-year budget to help chart a vision for the city.

The meeting starts at 10 am at White Auditorium City Conference Room 1 AB.
