Emporia's summer concert series begin this week.
The Brown Bag Concert Series begins its 20th season of entertainment at noon Wednesday at the Emporia Public Library, with the opener featuring juggler Brian Wendling. The event also features the dedication of "The Friends of the Library Courtyard" at 11:30 am.
Concerts are Wednesdays at noon through July 16. The full schedule is online at KVOE.com. In case of rain or extreme heat, concerts will be moved from the courtyard to other locations like the White Auditorium Little Theater or the Emporia Arts Center. Meanwhile, the Emporia Municipal Band begins its regular season Thursday night with the theme, "Opening Night." Tunes include selections from composers Henry Mancini and John Williams along with other popular music including "You Are My Sunshine" and "Man of La Mancha."
The concert is at 8 pm at Fremont Park. The concert season runs through July 10. This is the 74th season for the Municipal Band.
