Crash sends one person to NRH, cuts power to businesses

One person was transported to the hospital and several business were in the dark after an injury accident along Industrial Road Tuesday.

The accident happened around 1 p.m. Tuesday, in the 2000 block of Industrial. Preliminary indications are that the driver of an older Cadillac somehow lost control of his car, narrowly missed another vehicle, and crashed head-on into a power pole.

The power pole was shattered at the base, and the car was actually holding the pole in place before Westar crews arrived to stabilize the pole. This crash knocked out power to multiple businesses along the street, including the Short Stop gas station, Starbucks, and McDonalds, as well as residential customers. Westar spokesperson Gina Penzig said the pole was replaced, and power has since been restored to about 600 customers.

The driver of the Cadillac was transported to Newman Regional Health with unknown injuries. It's currently unclear exactly what caused the accident.
