Deputies wait tables, take orders during Tip a Deputy

There was plenty of law enforcement activity at Bobby D's Merchant Street BBQ Monday, but not for what you might think.

The 3rd annual Tip a Deputy raised money for Kansas Special Olympics, with Lyon County deputies taking orders, serving food and collecting tips.

Deputy Zach Shafer has been participating in this event since it began three years ago. He says it's good to help the community and Special Olympics, as well as do something different for an evening.

$434 was raised for Kansas Special Olympics. The Special Olympics year is culminating June 6-8 with the state games in Wichita, and the Law Enforcement Torch Run is coming through Emporia June 4-5. KVOE's Ron Thomas is again escorting the torch out of Emporia on June 5, and you can donate to "Ron's Ride" by calling 342-1400 or 800-279-1964.
