A longtime Emporian is leaving, and a reception for him will be held Wednesday.
The Emporia Community Foundation will host a farewell reception for Elvin "Perk" Perkins from 2pm to 4pm Wednesday, at the ECF office at 527 Commercial, Suite 501.
Perkins was one of the six founders of the ECF, as well as a active member and one-time director and chairman of the Emporia Area Chamber of Commerce, and a board member for Emporia Enterprises, the United Way of the Flint Hills, the National Teachers Hall of Fame, and the Regional Development Association. Perkins also served on the city commission for six years, one of which he was Mayor of Emporia.
Perkins established a law practice locally in 1948, after serving in the Navy and marrying his late wife Kathryn. They had three children.
Perkins will be relocating to the Kansas City area, and ECF executive director Shirley Antes said anyone is welcome to attend the reception. For more information, contact Antes at 342-9304.
