McCoy honored for volunteerism at 90th birthday gathering

Veteran, volunteer, leader, example.

Those are just a few attributes mentioned Saturday as Emporia resident Richard McCoy celebrated his 90th birthday with family and friends at First Baptist Church.

McCoy, a Marine in the Pacific Theater during World War II, was honored just as much for his four decades of volunteer work. McCoy tells KVOE News he felt obligated to help others after he returned home from war.

McCoy has volunteered 40 years for the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars, 40 years as a hunter safety educators and 22 years for Boy Scout day camps.
