The 12th annual Glass Blown Open disc golf tournament will be the biggest one yet.
Over 510 competitors from around the world are coming to Emporia this week for the tourney, which begins Friday. Organizer Jeremy Rusco says this is now one of the favorite tourneys on the Pro Disc Golf Association circuit.
The PDGA is responding, asking organizers to make the event one of its six core tournaments.
Play begins Friday, with courses at Jones Park, Peter Pan Park and the Emporia Country Club. Once again, the community is invited to be part of the tournament. A player's party is Thursday night at the Granada Theatre, including the event's first pro panel. Friday has a putting contest. Saturday has the annual block party and Cinco de Mayo celebration downtown.
