The fifth-annual SOS Child Abuse Prevention Summit brought the difficult topic of child abuse up for discussion at Flint Hills Technical College Wednesday.
This year's featured speaker was Alison Feigh, a trainer, author, and consultant on sexual abuse, sexual offenders and victimization. The statistics are startling: approximately 1 in 3-4 girls, and 1 in 6-10 boys (depending on the study), are sexually abused in America before they turn 18.
Feigh said it's a pandemic, a consistent problem over generation, but she said child abuse can be prevented.
Feigh said she had a really receptive and motivated audience, including people in the social work and foster care industries.
