The annual Stamp Out Hunger drive is coming May 10. Letter carrier Janet Way, a recent Newsmaker guest, said the concept is simple: on May 10, leave nonperishable food items by your mailbox, and your local letter carriers will pick them up.
All the food collected during this drive will go to the Salvation Army's food pantry. Way says this drive -- now in its 22nd year nationally -- will help a lot of people.
Way says the United Way of the Flint Hills helps with advertising and organization, and Campbell's Soup has sent them postcards to send out the week before the drive as a reminder. Way said they're hoping to receive plastic bags from the Kansas Food Bank Network, and the Salvation Army also helps weigh and sort the donated items.
Last year brought in over 12,000 pounds of food. For more information or to participate, contact Way at 794-3206.
