The Flint Hills Community Health Center - Lyon County Health Department had a lighter agenda for their board of directors meeting Tuesday.
The board approved a decision to allow Main Street Baptist Church to use Health Center - Health Department facilities for a food distribution event. CEO Phillip Davis says there wasn't a policy in place before the church asked to use the space.
Davis says they are now ready to open the Health Center - Health Department to these kinds of events, and that it's important for the Health Center - Health Department to participate in providing healthy food to folks in need. Davis says any church or non-profit group is welcome to contact him if they would like to host an event like this at the Health Center - Health Department.
In other business, the board approved the monthly finance report, showing the Health Center - Health Department with a net income for March of a little over $50,000. The board also approved the adoption of a new policy allowing for a termination of patient-provider relationship in certain extreme cases where, as Davis says, the patient and the provider don't get along.
In related Health Center - Health Department news, the Delta Dental of Kansas Foundation donated about 2,400 oral health kits to the Health Center - Health Department to be distributed to local residents. Spokesperson Jacque Ambrose said the need for dentists locally and nationwide is extremely high, while the number of people who need dental care has spiked. This grant extended to the East Central Kansas Public Health Coalition, providing service to Lyon and surrounding counties.
