CVAB discusses separate assistance requests at monthly meeting

The Convention and Visitors Advisory Board fielded a pair of assistance requests Monday.

Convention and Visitors Bureau Director Susan Rathke says the Lyon County Historical Society and Emporia State's Peterson Planetarium presented two different kinds of requests to the advisory board this week. The Historical Society is presenting a traditional request for money.

The Historical Society has been raising money for over a year to consolidate its operations and move into what it's calling the Lyon County Historical Center at 709 Commercial, perhaps as soon as late this year or early next year. A funding request hasn't been divulged.

Meanwhile, Peterson Planetarium isn't asking for funds, but it is asking for marketing help as it undergoes major renovations. Advisory board members are suggesting Susan Aber, the woman leading the effort, utilize on-campus resources towards that end.
