Strong storms ushered in sharply cooler air to the KVOE listening area, but not before issuing delay-of-game penalties to several area football games.
Storms brought brief, heavy rain, small hail and occasionally high winds to area residents.
Rain totals include:
KVOE studios: 0.40 inches
Emporia: 0.60 inches
Olpe area: 0.70 inches
Winds as high as 60 mph were also estimated near Burlingame and Carbondale. Quarter-sized hail dropped near White City.
Games on KVOE's airwaves -- Emporia High and Topeka Hayden on 14 KVOE and Olpe-Lyndon on Country 101.7 FM -- were both delayed, with the Olpe-Lyndon game put on hold for almost four hours before starting. Other games were postponed to later dates:
Council Grove at Osage City: 7 pm Saturday
Burlingame at Hartford: 5 pm Monday
Flinthills at Lebo: 6:30 pm Monday
Mission Valley at West Franklin: Monday. Game was stopped with West Franklin leading 14-13 in second quarter.
Temperatures will be sharply colder after the front passes, with highs struggling to reach 60 degrees both Saturday and Sunday.
