Several burns got out of control Friday.
North Lyon County firefighters and Lyon County deputies tackled a blaze near Roads 380 and "D" shortly after noon. No information is available about whether the fire was originally a planned burn or how much acreage burned.
Firefighters also went to 1422 Kansas Highway 99 and the 2700 block of Road "L" shortly before 4 pm. In both cases, the property owners obtained the necessary burn permits and alerted Lyon County dispatch beforehand.
Neither fire appeared to be larger than 10 acres. A small shed was destroyed in the K-99 fire. Initial reports had a barn in jeopardy in the Road "L" fire, but no structures were destroyed.
The fire danger is significantly higher Saturday with warmer temperatures and gusty south winds as high as 30 mph. We'll keep you updated on KVOE and KVOE.com.
