A Kansas political icon is coming to Emporia next month.
Bob Dole, a longtime U.S. senator and a candidate for both President and Vice-President, will be in Emporia on May 14.
A time and location for Dole's appearance have not been released.
Dole is visiting over 15 Kansas towns and cities next month. This is the second trip the 90-year-old Dole is taking across Kansas and others are planned. A spokesperson says Dole wants to thank his supporters through the years and is not planning any speeches.
Dole served in the U.S. Senate from 1969 to 1996. He was Gerald Ford's running mate in an unsuccessful bid against Democrats Jimmy Carter and Walter Mondale in 1976. He was the Republican presidential nominee in 1996 against Bill Clinton.
Dole also served with distinction in World War II, serving in the European theater and getting badly wounded late in the war in Italy.
