Drug take-back event coming to Emporia April 26

Folks with leftover prescription drugs can return them in a safe manner on April 26, as part of National Drug Take-Back Day.

Flint Hills Community Health Center - Lyon County Health Department Clinic Director Renee Hively was a guest on a recent KVOE Morning Show. She says the Health Center - Health Department's parking lot will be open that day, from 10am--2pm, with staff members on hand to take unwanted or unused medications.

Hively said the Drug Enforcement Agency recommends these take-back events over the traditional method of flushing expired of leftover drugs down the toilet, or throwing them in the trash. Hively says that could contaminate local groundwater supplies, or if thrown away, the medications could get in the hands of addicts or drug dealers.

This is a free service. For more information, go online to www.flinthillshealth.org, or call 342-4864.
