USD 244 Burlington schools were under a "shelter in place" cautionary measure Thursday over a possible child custody issue.
Burlington Elementary, Middle and High schools were under lockdown, after Burlington Police warned the district of a possible conflict with a child custody issue. Police Chief Doug Jones has posted on social media the incident developed after unspecified parents in Montgomery County had their parental rights severed by a court Wednesday, but made threats to take their children home anyways. The children, names and ages not released, are currently in foster care.
According to a statement released by district superintendent Cliff Williams, all outside doors were locked and no outdoor activities took place. However, students moved from class to class as a normal school day.
