Red flag warnings back in place

Dry, breezy conditions made for a busy day for area firefighters Tuesday. And the fire danger revs up Wednesday.

A red flag warning for critical fire danger is now in effect for Lyon and most surrounding counties from 10 am to 6 pm. Chase and Greenwood counties are in a separate red flag warning from 9 am to 6 pm. Warm temperatures and southerly winds as high as 45 mph are combining with low humidity levels and dry grasses to rev up the fire danger.

On Tuesday, fire crews dealt with nearly 10 out-of-control fires just in Lyon County. Most were planned burns that got away, but there was at least one rekindle from prior burning activity.
